Petty Educates Young Hamlin
By: Dennis Terry
Our MWR pit crew pulled double duty pitting both Reutimann's Busch and Cup cars this weekend at Dover.
Dover's tight pit road was very busy with all of the cautions on Sunday. Pit road got a little out of control when a tire from Dale Jarrett's car (which was 5 pit stalls away) bounced through our pit stall and into Michael Waltrip's gas man sending him to the emergency room.
He was alright, but will need a week off to recover from the soreness of getting smacked by a 65 lb. tire bouncing around at about 50 mph.
What about Hamlin and Petty??? You've gotta to love those in-car camera views!!! I wonder what Donnie Allison or Cale Yarborough would have done if Petty had slapped their skull like that???
Hamlin never got his hands on Kyle since his team came to the rescue before Hamlin could take off his gloves, remove his helmet and unbuckle his belts and climb out of the car. But, Denny did have some strong words for Mr. Petty....
“Don’t smack me in the helmet. You smack me in the helmet I’m going to punch you in the face,” Hamlin said following the race. “I’d like for him to call me sometime this week before next race."
Hummm.... I wonder if Hamlin is planning to punch Kyle's face through the phone???
Anyway, I loved Kyle's approach!!!
He took off HIS helmet and then started slapping around Denny who was still protected by his. None of the Juan vs. Harvick or Gordon vs. Kenseth protective shoving that we've seen before.
Petty may be struggling to stay in the top 35 in points, but Sunday proves that he still has the fire to compete and race hard every lap.

Hey Dennis,
I think Denny would be making a BIG mistake taking on Kyle Petty.
Dennis have you ever made the mistake of taking on your ol man? I did and got a fat lip! Denny might want to think about that!
LOL

Hey DT, how are you? I'm amazed at the amount of people on other sites that are saying Denny deserved this from Kyle. How does he deserve this? For the last 2 years in Nextel Cup, I don't believe Denny has wrecked one single car and now Kyle is saying he's been driving like an idiot all year. Where does he get that from? Sure we all know Denny wrecked him but for Kyle to come over to Denny's car like that was uncalled for. Kyle breaks his hand a few months ago smashing a wall, he's swearing on national tv and now he's doing this. By the way, I'm glad Michael's crew member is ok. You hate to see anything like that happen. Take care.

I think that if Denny has shown even a little remorse to Kyle he wouldn't have been so irate. I liked Denny coming into this year but I can't stand him anymore. Tearing down your crew when you lose is inexcusable. And his comments Sunday regarding racing for bigger and better things didn't settle too well. If the Chase guys are all that matter in these last ten races why is anyone else bothering? His ATTITUDE is right up there with Shrub. They should make great teammates next year.

denny acts like a little biotch.
living like a rock star is one thing.
but, to expect everyone kiss your ass 24/7 and express it in such a public way is NUTS man.
"i have a short fuse"
"i should of grabbed kyle around the throat"
is there something in the water at jgr?
is yeley the only normal guy over there?

“Let’s look back in my career. I have never wrecked anyone in my entire career, nor had anyone get spun off my front bumper.”
OK, How does a driver make it to Cup and never wreck anyone?
Ever?
Will Tony keep his sanity next year surrounded by those two little twits?
Team meetings will be fun...
Kyle: It's my turn to talk.
DenDen: No me!
Kyle: I'm a superstarrr!
DenDen: I live next door to the Coach!
Kyle: You're a suck up!
DenDen: You're Kurt's brother!
Kyle: Where'd Tony go?

DT,
Dale Jr. and Denny Hamplin were good friends. Now even Junior calls Denny "arrogant".
After Denny punted Dale Jr. for no reason at Loudon, Dale Jr. wanted to wreck. I believe the words "park him" and "I want to wreck him" were used. Junior came very close to wrecking but saved the car.
So those words "Let’s look back in my career. I have never wrecked anyone in my entire career, nor had anyone get spun off my front bumper.” Aren't even close to being true. Kyle Petty had every right to be mad, and Denny had no right to wreck him.
Glad to hear the #55's Gas man will be okay. Is MWR a happier place to be working for? Glad you found another job so quickly.

Would have loved to see Kyle bring him down a peg or two....Hamlin is a good driver, BUT has turned way too arrogant, bitching and moaning like Gordon and Johnson....

Denny has caused many wrecks in his career, including in Cup. He is an arrogant, spoiled little kid who thinks he's a superstar. He didn't just bump Kyle out of the way, he clobbered him. There are 42 other cars in the races who want to do good, whether they're fighting for 35th 20th or 1st. Denny needs to remember that. I hope Coach gives him a talking to.

Please tell me what race in Nextel cup racing that Denny put somebody in the wall. There was an incident I believe the beginning of 2006 at Daytona or Talladega where Denny came up the race track and caused a wreck. Boy oh boy, he is really a bad driver. You must know Junior personally if you know they aren't friends anymore. So if the tables were turned and Junior hit Kyle in the rear, it would be ok I guess. It's amazing how this Nascar world is. I felt bad for Kyle before he showed up at Denny's car. Not anymore.

Kyle Petty is washed up. Never has been that great of a driver. Kyle would have got his ass whipped. Ever since he took on that Carbon monoxide Kyle has lacked endurance on and off the track. Who the hell hits their hand on a concrete wall and breaks it? Kyle is a frail little biotch.

i wish they would have let Denny at him. Kyle would deserve it. Everyone is big to complain about Denny, well the way I see it Kyle had no business sticking his hands inside the car. I think Hamlin showed good restaint, he should of grabed a hold of him when he stuck his hand in the car.

Denny was showing good restraint because he was scared to death and waiting for his team to come back him up!

Denny needs his lil' sissy ass whupped, don't you think DT? I notice he did the ol' "somebody hold me back" deal!!. I don't think Kyle will be too hard to find this weekend, go ahead and grab him by the neck, Denny. Oh yeah, dont count on your crew members to have your back.

this is to charles...."who the hell hits their hand on a concrete wall and breaks it". Hmmm how about everyone? IT'S CONCRETE!! and for your information little dude, he hit the inside of his hauler. Get your facts straight. Kyle would have put little puny ass Hamlin in the ground and show him alittle bit of the attitude adjustment that he so desperately needs

If Kyle Petty still has the fire, why the hell does he neve fight for any kind of lead?
My view of Kyle as a racer has collapsed since Bobby Labonte joined the team, because in Labonte Kyle has a teammate with a temperment and driving style similar enough to Kyle's that their feedback can improve both of their cars, and yet Labonte has run well and Kyle has only gotten worse, refusing to race ANYONE for anything. If Kyle had that fire he'd be running far better than he is; instead he shows more passion getting into Denny Hamlin's face than actually trying to race anyone.
Charles is wrong in that Kyle's career overall has been good. "Who would break his hand against a concrete wall?" Davey Allison in 1991, for one. But right now Kyle is not showing anything but cowardice on the racetrack - not in beating up on Denny Hamlin because the young guns deserve to fail; Kyle is showing cowardice on the racetrack by NEVER GOING FOR THE LEAD.

"who hits their hand ON a concrete wall and breaks it?"
Where to start?
Kyle PUNCHED the wall or a door.
If you have ever punched something in anger you would understand the visit to the doctors office to get it fixed.
I'm guessin Kyle Petty on his "weakest" day, is way ahead of you on a great day.
It's not nice to call a Man like Kyle a biotch, biotch.

Kyle needs to retire and let someone else drive the 45. He's so slow he doesn't even know how to get out of the way. Bobby's proven that Petty Enterprises has made improvements with their equipment but unfortunately Kyle is holding the organization back by continuing to drive.
Denny may be young and arrogant but a lot of you seem to forget, or perhaps never knew in the first place, that Kyle was the same way when he started in Cup. Kyle really has no right to say anything. If he could drive faster then he wouldn't be getting run over every week.

I believe Denny said that Kyle let up. Hmmm, sounds slightly reminiscent of what Tony said about Denny after their incident. What goes around, comes around.

I was a BIG Denny Hamlin fan, until this year. He's become a BIG disappointment to me--- sullen, arrogant. What happened to the refreshing lad who felt SO fortunate to be racing in Nascar? He is a sad specimen of what happens when stardom goes to your head.
Posted by: Nelda | Sep 24, 2007 7:30:50 PM
That was your classic "dope slap." I thought it was pretty funny.
Stuff like that is good for the sport. And good grief, Denny...show some patience. You don't need to punt the guy just to prove you're faster. If you're faster, guess what...go AROUND him. Now there's a concept.
Denny kind of reminds me of how Cousin Carl was last year. Full of himself, not having any fun, throwing temper tantrums. Carl obviously calmed down and got his perspective back and is enjoying himself again. There's still hope for Denny.

You know, I liked Denny until yesterday. He's always had a great attitude about him, and he's a great driver. I was impressed last year by how he whooped them "old dogs" butts at the Bud Shootout.
His actions yesterday of, instead of apologizing to Kyle for totally taking him out(even the announcers said so) and then saying he should have put his hand around Kyle's throat?? BS. Go back to your cage Denny. You showed how little class you really have.
