Daytona 500 and a special guest blog
EDITOR'S NOTE: As Trent notes, Krissie Newman is joining ThatsRacin.com's blog team and we couldn't be prouder to have her with us for 2008. You've got to like someone who works as hard as Krissie and Ryan do in the charity realm, particularly in the areas of companion animal welfare, conservation and preservation of wildlife, and college scholarships for racers. The wife of the Daytona 500 winner is piggybacking on Trent's Over the Wall space with her first post, but will be moving soon to a blog she'll call Krissie's Korner.
By Trent Cherry
As you guys can imagine, the last 24 hours have been unbelievable.
I' m gonna give some more insight into victory lane and the night that followed later on in the week. For now, there is a new blogger who has come on board to help out with the 2008 season.
It just so happens that she's the wife of the Daytona 500 champion and a good friend, Krissie Newman.
This is an idea that was came up over the offseason and it just so happens her first post is today.
So here it is:. The first post of "Krissie's Korner."
Victory Lane!
By Krissie Newman
I could not think of a better way to start this blog and the season than a win at the Daytona 500!
I had never imagined I would ever feel that emotional after a win, but I could not stop shaking and crying throughout the night.
The past few seasons have been less than stellar and the Alltel Crew, Ryan included, never lost faith or focus. There were a few crew changes in the offseason, but I really feel that the team is headed in the right direction.
The amount of focus and history behind the Daytona 500 is astounding. To watch the previous winners up on stage and to know Ryan is a part of that history is unbelievable.
I try to replay the last few moments of the race in my mind, but all I remember thinking was CHARLOTTE! I was praying so hard that nothing would happen and Ryan would cross the finish line, in one piece to collect the checkered flag.
I look forward to what lies ahead these next 37 weeks, but more importantly I look forward to writing this blog each week to connect with race fans and, hopefully, give you another look into the world of racing y'all love.

Congrats to the classiest and coolest team out there!!! I'm still getting emotional thinking about the win!
Welcome, Krissie!! I'm so excited that you'll be hangin' with us and giving us a really unique perspective on things. I do have to say, I was holding in the tears yesterday until they showed you and then I just lost it. :) So awesome.
You & Ryan are such class acts and an inspiration to us all. Thanks for keeping the faith!

Krissie, welcome aboard.
What a finish. I was standing in my living room yelling at the TV. Telling Ryan to go go go. My fiance and future in-laws were all standing and rooting for Ryan as well.
I can not begin to imagine what was going through your head. WOW.
Congrats to Ryan, Roy and the whole crew.
It seems like Ryan, and now yourself as well, is trying to get out in the public more for the fans. I think this is a great move.

WOW, Welcome Krissie and much heart felt congrats to you, your husband, the crew. Wow I just finished watching TWIN (the new but old speed NASCAR show that replaced INC) The clip that they showed before and after the interview with Ryan really showed ALL the emotion that everyone felt.
BTW I loved your shirt that you had on. I know corny but I am a girl, and I like it. Enjoy New York!!!!

Krissie,
Welcome to the fray here at OTW!!! We fans are so excited at the chance to interact with you!!
I just finished watching Ryan on Letterman, after listening to him on Tony Stewart Live on Sirius Nascar..and that suit you two picked out was NICE!!! ;)
I have to tell you that I was practically asleep with 30 laps left yesterday, and by the last lap I had resigned myself to the fact that Smoke was gonna win his first Daytona 500....I am just so used to things just not "lining up" (lol) for Ryan to win and when he took the lead, it was like coming out of a coma!! I jumped to my feet screaming and yelling and I swear it took three laps to get to the finish line!! LOL One of the people at the party I was attending looked at me and said "You've really got to get a little more into this!" LOL. I am sure I made a fool of myself, but I sure didn't care...it was SWEET!!!!
Welcome and give that hubby of yours a big hug and kiss from us!!

From a Canadian fan of the Number 12 team, thanks for sharing your feelings about that very special day. Ryan now has his well deserved and earned place of honor in Nascar history. Here's hoping for a wonderful season and many more unique insights as it unfolds.

Congrats to the #12 team, Ryan and Krissie, and Roger Penske on a memorable, exciting, and historical victory. And this is coming from a real Smoke fan, not the kind who would paintball cars in the shop parking lot.

Congratulations to Trent, Krissie, Ryan and the whole Team Penske!
These last laps of 50th Daytona 500 made me grew old and than become young again. I never experienced something like that. I can't describe what I was feeling when Ryan and Kurt crossed the finish line 1-2. I want to say huge thank you to all people in the organization. You made me the happiest man un the world!
Sorry, my post looks like absolute mess but I'm still very emotional...

Welcome to the world of blogging Krissie! I look forward to reading/blogging with you each week. :)
CONGRATULATIONS!!!! Ryan, Krissie, Roy, the Alltel Crew, Mom/Dad, and everyone back at PRS! What an incredible race! What a way to start the season, and end a winless streak! Could not have happened for a better guy/group!
I'm so very proud to call myself a Ryan Newman, Alltel Fan! I still can not get the smile off my face. So many emotions. It's all just so incredibly amazing!
As always..... Wishing you all the very best throughout the season! Good luck at Cali.

WOW!! Just got back from Daytona and I am so excited!!! I took a buddy with me for his first race and he drives a TOY so he was cheering for Gibbs...The whole time I was watching the 12 and had no clue what was happening (Buddy had the scanner). I just kept watching and waiting and was just amazed at how we were in the right position at the end and waited until the white flag to make our move. Stewfart can say all he wants about making the wrong choice to drop down, but the fact is it didn't matter Ryan made the right choice and here we are as 12 fans riding a wave of momentum that is long overdue...Why does it seems that the media focused so much on those that lost instead of the story of the man that won?????

Great job and congratulation Trent and the whole team. Thanks Krissie for joining this

Trent -- Congratulations to you and all the 12 guys on such a terrific win. The feeling must be incredible.
Krissie -- Congrats to you, too, and welcome. Being a Cup driver's wife can't be the easiest of things, but it's times like this that can make it all worthwhile.
All the best for a terrific year.

Congratulations to the whole team!
My voice box is still sore from screaming as Ryan crossed the finish line.
What a great model of persistence, perseverance and teamwork!

Congradulations to Ryan, Krissie, Trent and all the #12 Gang. I was so excited to watch Ryan take the checkered flag Sunday. I have been a fan since he began racing. I have watched him develop into an awesome driver. I am sure the last couple of years have been difficult, but I never lost faith that he and the team would find their way to victory lane. Needless to say, I was very loud when he crossed that finish line. Good luck and God's speed to the Rocketman and his team for future races. I look forward to watching!!!!

Krissie, welcome to the crazy world of blogging, congratulations to you, Ryan, Trent and the rest of the team! We met Ryan when he firt started racing.. we were guests of Alltel in Atlanta, really nice guy, always has a good come back and seems to be pretty easy going, but I don't think anybody would want to mess with him anyway....looks real solid to me! LOL I am a Kasey Kahne , Bill Elliott fan, but Ryan is at the top of the 'rest of the list'. It is nice reading and discussing with Trent, blogging with you, as Ryan's wife will really be a treat!
