Danica's embarassing to the sport
Being a fellow racer my self I was embarrassed after watching the fiasco that took place at Indy this weekend. The hype of the Indy 500 was overshadowed by the pictures of Danica in a bikini. The coverage of the race was marked by where and what was happening to Danica. If that was any other male driver there wouldn't have been any covered due to the fact there wasn't anything to cover, but because its a pretty girl that looks good in a bikini and can sell tickets and ratings, they covered every minute of her 500 run. Here is my second complaint, what did Danica really think she was going to do when she got out of her car and was heading down to the 6 cars pit. She was stopped before she got to the pits. During the interview she said that it was better that she didn't get down there. OK, seriously, what the hell are you really going to do Danica. Your 5"1 95 lbs. and you think your going to kick butt down in the pits. It was a joke watching the whole thing. If the sport of IRL is going to be Danica for the next 15 years then i wont watch another race. holla

You know Trent I was thinking pretty much the same thing while listening to this race on the radio and them talking about her making her way down to the 6. What a spoiled "brat" she seems like and how she wants all this attention. She doesn't seem to care how she gets it "with her clothes on or off::) Good luck this weekend at Dover -you guys are do some! Need to start going back up the ladder into the top 12!

Kind of reminds you of the other "little girl" in NASCAR.

Finally, someone else gets it about Danifraud. Remember when she drilled Tomas Scheckter and one or two other cars in her 2005 Miami debut? The media didn't even comment that she wasn't looking past the nose of her racecar - but when Paul Dana was killed in the same kind of crash a year later the media crucified his driving even before he was buried.
And did anyone else notice how she's crashed in or exiting the pits four times in the last eight to ten races? She wrecked three times late last season and again at Indy, and this isn't counting her drilling a crew guy before qualifying.
But she's a woman, so PC dictates she gets a free pass.

When Danica first came onto the Indy car scene, she gave it a much needed shot in the arm. Now, however, I think she feels she is bigger than the IRL. I keep seeing her name come up as possibly signing on to drive in NASCAR. Personally, I think she should go to Formula 1 with the rest of the prima donas.

Least she was not crying like Sara Fisher. Go Danica!!!!
Posted by: Sharon | May 28, 2008 2:24:25 PM
Add me to the list of who really cares about Danica. She is the worst roll model of women in racing there is with her behavior. I'm all about seeing the true side of a driver but she's gotta grow some balls to play with the big boys.

She seemed like a female version of JG, DH, KyB after a race of late.
But mostly JG when he had his little temper tantrum when he went after MK with the helmet at bristol in 06.
Some drivers can turn into the biggest cry babies when things do not go their way, male or female. Then again she probably had a bad case of PMS.
Danica posing in the magazine is no different from the bare chested, muscle man they call Carl Edwards. Wasn't he on the cover of Mens health in the buff?
Neither is it any different from Kasey Kahne shaking his rump in a not so flattering way.
Racing is not Racing anymore. It is just a big marketing Juggernaut for fans, ratings and money. A driver does not have to be talented to earn a ride, he gets one because of how he looks, and how many fans he can get.
I do not know if you are following, but Nascar has become no better than the IRL of late IMO with all the off track drama, it's not becoming fun to watch anymore for us fans.

I wouldn't go as far as to say she is embarrassing the sport, more herself. She is fiesty, which is cool.Drama is what most us fans like, and she seems to be providing that, like it or not.The girl has got talent, obviously.Don't think she would do well in Nascar as the current drivers for the most part whine like little babies already about how hard it is to drive.Me personally, though she is cute in a bikini,I prefer some meat on the bones and some bounce!
I for one don't have a problem as it gives us something to talk about and there is an entertaiment value that is needed in IRL and Nascar because reality is the racing really is loosing it luster.JMO..........

Trent, you ask the question what would happen if Danica had gotten down to the other pt stall?
How about the same thing she did in 2005, slap the hell out of Jacques Lazier for being an asshat and taking her out of the race?
Posted by: marc | May 28, 2008 9:44:29 PM
Marc, she took him out, not the other way around. Lazier should have kicked her in the crotch.

Hey, Danica's the best thing the IRL has got right now. Mediocre talent, lots of pizzaz. She could never cut in NASCAR, she would wilt after a couple hundred laps in 140 degree temps. Perhaps she'll find life after the IRL as a jockey?
Posted by: Rich | May 29, 2008 7:52:20 AM
At least she had the guts to go down there and do something person to person instead of using her car to run into the 6 car. I am sure the guys who work on the cars were glad to see that.

They call the Indy 500 the greatest spectacle in racing...well ABC made it a spectacle with all the attention given to Danica. I do not deny she has talent, but she really needs to mature in her attitude.
I disagree with Sharon's comments on Sara Fischer's crying...she is the car owner and that wreck (and her admitted mistake) may prevent her from running future races. She had every right, IMO, to be upset.

I like what carfan 12 had to say. Racing has left the ticket buying fans behind. It is now all about corporate marketing. Seldom do I pay any attention to the new breed of driver remarks...but last week the 19 year old Indy driver Rahal made a wise statement when asked about leaving IRL for NASCAR. He said NASCAR has peaked. If you don't believe folks..."Humpy" has left the building. How many sponsors do you think that man has found for down on their luck drivers over the past three decades? Kyle Bush may develop into the greatest race driver in history...but fans will never buy tickets to see him or his type show their little fiesty tails. He came into racing as an outsider and will leave racing as an outsider. Too many people like Humpy are leaving, including drivers, owners, sponsors and the people who know racing as as sport and too many people are coming onboard whose only interest is making a buck. The "Big Bust" is not far in the future...half empty seats will bring pay per view racing and the rest of the "Humpys" will leave the building...please turn out the lights when you go.

If the sport of Nascar is going to be the Kyle Busch show for the next 15 years I won't watch.
Posted by: C | May 29, 2008 10:51:29 AM
Humpy has signed on with LMS to be a consultant for the next 5 years. Bruton hasn't gotten rid of him yet. :)

Trent,
LOL, see, nobody but me thought it was funny when, during Indy week, Danica's photo was posted, on the TR homepage, right above a Nationwide Towing Service ad. Seems kind of prophetic now, doesn't it?

Danica may be an embarrassment to the sport, but KB and DH are the sports biggest bitches.
Posted by: mlytc | May 29, 2008 9:35:30 PM
I agree she has talent and that she does need to control her attitude..... But as for what was she going to do if she had of gotten to Briscoe.... She can basically do whatever she wants, to a certain point, she's a female, they aren't going to hit her, just as Wheldon said last year when she grabbed and shoved him, she's a female, I'm not going to hit her! Which she knows this, I do think it's very very wrong to hit a female, at the same time, you wanta play with the big boys, you expect to be treated like them, then if you dish it out, you oughta get it back!

Kyle B. is embarrassing to the sport.
Posted by: pane | May 29, 2008 11:15:09 PM
it's funny and a little sad at the same time when you don't like a "girl" in a race car 'cause she's a "girl".
keep 'em barefoot and pregnant... huh ??
Posted by: exile | May 29, 2008 11:48:42 PM
I'm not and never have been a Danica fan. But I find some things said about her a little misogynistic.
exile - Amen to your comments.
carfan12 - I hope you were joking with the PMS remark. But I agree with you that there's little difference between Danica's posing, Cousin Carl's posing and Kasey Kahne's butt shaking. Even worse are the All-State commercials that show KK as a sex symbol instead of a racecar driver.
Posted by: Mac | May 30, 2008 8:15:20 AM
It is time NASCAR and IRL did some talent swapping....how about KB & DH in an even trade for Danica Patrick. JGR would be dollars ahead with her, when KB hits a losing streak and starts producing DNF's.
What goes around comes around especially in racing. A desire to win and winning attitude are one thing....KB flaunts his bad attitude toward the fans, racing and his fellow competitors everytime he goes on the track. A little Danica would be a pleasant change...my vote is trade em now.
Posted by: Jim | May 30, 2008 8:28:19 AM
Mac, I was joking about the PMS remark, but you gotta think just maybe........
95 lbs women in their right hormonal balance do not go storming after 150 lbs men with the hope of accomplishing anything.
LOL Kasey K a sex symbol?
Please...
Maybe for 15 year old girls not for grown adult women IMO.
What happens when he turns 38?
OH I guess he will have his driving talent to fall back on then.
Posted by: carfan12 | May 30, 2008 9:40:42 AM
So what, exactly, is it that makes Kyle and Denny so horrible? Is it that they show the passion that most fans complain that new age drivers lack? Or is it that they talk big, only to back it up instead of backing into the wall, like you would like to see? Or, maybe, just maybe, is it that they keep winning? Because no one likes the driver that beats their driver every week.
The discussion was about Danica, correct? So unless Danica has recently signed on as the 4th driver at JGR, I don't see the relationship between Danica and the Gibbs drivers.
Oh, and in defense of Dainca....I'd bet a week's pay she would smoke any one of you in a race, so before we bash a driver's ability, let's appreciate that they risk their lives every week to live their dream and entertain us.
