Looks like i could be wrong, i doubt it though
Well, the 16 car might be the sleeper that i didn't see coming. I still stand by what i said but it does look like it's going to be closer than i thought. The competition level is so good now a days that its going to be tuff to just dominate completely. I still like the chase style racing and think that it adds to the excitement level for the fans. Some of the old school racers and fans think that the new points system is junk but i love it. It keeps drivers competing all year. Well, i really wish i had some other great things to talk about but i don't. Oh, i do have one other thing. Senator McCain was at the track this weekend and we got to meet him and see his hot wife. I personally like him and thought it was pretty cool to see how much security is actually around a presidential candidate. Snipers all over the place. OK, thats all for now.

I caught a glimpse of McCain, but I didn't understand all those photogs on top of roofs and motorhomes in the garage area. And why were they wearing army-type garb?
;-)
Seriously, while the #16's win was a surprise - not as much as the utter collapse of the #18 in that race - it's a stretch to think of this win as evidence that the competition level "is as good as it is," because that argument is made periodically yet never reflected in lead changes or different winners - only nine teams racing this year have won races from the start of 2003 and two others than won in the 2003-4 period are long disbanded.
There has been NO evidence that the Chase format has kept drivers competing all year; on the contrary it has made them all race for points INSTEAD of wins. This is increased mediocrity, not better competition.
I'm still betting on Busch, because he has the horsepower edge and now has the motivation to outfight everyone the rest of the way.

I don't think Biffle's win is that much of a surprise. He's been fast all year.
Posted by: keith39 | Sep 17, 2008 5:33:26 PM
I was really proud of the Biff! I still wish the Chase was the top 15.... the thing that I don't like about the Chase is that the Chase drivers and Nascar, seem to think the other 31 drivers are just suppose to roll over and play dead! Everyone talks about being careful around the Chase drivers, that's bull, let them race and race hard, shouldn't matter if it's a chase driver or not! I'm not a big fan of them making lap cars move over for the leaders either! If your that good, figure out a way to go around them without a flag making them move over for you! Just shut up and race!!!! Sorry, rant over!

Kyle Busch is not mentally tough enough for the pressure of winning a championship. Thats why he runs to his little red wagon so JD can get him away from the big bad media when things don't go his way.

The chase sucks any way you look at it.....too many cars in it, if they JUST HAVE TO HAVE A CHASE....then use the top five finishers, give other drivers a chance for a decent finish for the year. It would also help 'weed out' the ones who barely make it into the chase and would help the drivers who really should have made it but had a couple of bad races or had someone put them out of it intentionally and that crap happens EVERY year. Something needs to change when we are watching a sport and we ALREADY KNOW WHO THE TOP 12 FINISHERS ARE. The only thrill left this year is, win, win, win, or 'take somebody out that we don't want to win'. What kind of deal is this? A looser.
Posted by: 9fanatic | Sep 17, 2008 8:30:57 PM
if you dont like it then dont watch it idiot.
you and mike daily can go some where else and complain to some one else, dumb ass idiots.
this sport is what it is love it or LEAVE IT.
yes mike d.a it is more competitive when you take 12 drivers, nine of which had no shot to win a championship buy the old points stucture and put them all with in 80 points of each other and give them a chance to win. because thats the way this structure was made to do. race to get in then race to win. it doesnt matter to anyone, ANYONE that you dont like it. thats just the way it is so f##K off and go find some place else to bitch about your pathetic misserable lifes.

You mean the heiress that picked up a married man at a bar, who then left his disfigured wife, and married said heiress less than a year later? Family Values indeed.... I think I will choose a candidate for the highest office in this land on issues rather than him having a HOT Wife that he picked up in a bar, while still married.
Posted by: Dean Smith | Sep 18, 2008 10:29:15 AM
You right Dean, putting a practicing muslin and a community organizer in office is much better. So your voting for a man who gets most of his political financing from the chinese and russia. Sounds like we got us a winner.
Posted by: trentcherry | Sep 18, 2008 11:29:44 AM
Dean,
You must be speaking of John's first wife Carol. Who had been previously married to one of his classmates at the Naval Academy and had two children with. Two children in which John adopted after he married Carol. Carol, a former model, who was in a tragic car accident while John was a POW for 5 1/2 years. Who could not tell John of her accident while he was a POW for fear it would bring more torture and break his spirit. a secret she kept from him for 3 years until his release.
Yes, John cheated on his first wife Carol and has admitted it. But, I don't think you or anyone else has the right to judge John or Carol for what they had to endure all of those years and how it impacted their marriage. They have remained friends. Both Carol and John and have done more for this country than you and I ever will I am sure of that.
If you are comparing Family Values to the other candidate. He is an admitted cocaine user. Has taken his wife and children to a racially and politically charged church for two decades. And supports sex education for kindergartners.

While I have yet to decide who I will vote for President, I am not stupid enough to believe all of the rhetoric that BOTH parties are spewing. However, I do find it funny that some blast Obama for being a member of a racially charged Baptist Church and then accuse him of bing a practicing Muslim. I am a Southern Baptist and I can guarantee you that Baptists are Christians and not Muslims.
I just hope that the voters look for the truth about each candidate before the election. Moreover, don't get all your info. from left wing and/or right wing blogs, radio, etc.. BOTH groups have an agenda that they are trying to achieve and will resort to distorting the truth if necessary.
We as voters also need to focus on the real issues that are important to this Nation and not the 'hot button' topics that some fringe elements of each party want us to think are the most important.
The Presidential debates start next week. I just hope that the voters will take the time to watch the debates in order to see what the candidates have to say about the issues.

trent,
are you going to stay at the 12 with a subpar driver like stremme or are you going to take the leap with newman to stewart racing?
Posted by: tony | Sep 18, 2008 9:48:14 PM
I also can't believe that those who are telling us NOT to judge McCain for his infidelity probably went along with Clinton's crucifixion for his marital indiscretions.
A big plate of hypocrisy, anyone??
Posted by: shocked | Sep 19, 2008 2:27:41 AM
i think stremme is an even trade, absolutely nothing will change.
Posted by: freak | Sep 19, 2008 7:35:58 AM
Clinton was crucified for lying under oath. Get your facts straight. Oh...and using the White House..a major simble of the United States, as the backdrop for his indiscretions.
If at this point you are undecided on who you are voting for, I am truly shocked. The candidates vary greatly on the "hot button" issues of national security, economy, government spending, and government oversight.
Sadly, most Americans are too lazy to research the history of the candidates, or learn about the history of the issues at hand...such as the current plight of some of our major financial institutions. They will simply by into, it happened on GWB watch, so it must be the Republican's fault. They will ingnore the fact that Franklin Raines is the former CEO of Fannie Mae served as White House budget director under President Bill Clinton. Paid himself 100 million and had to be ousted.
Here's a good read on this issue going back to the mid 90's.

I'm done with the politics.
Posted by: Michael | Sep 19, 2008 10:44:05 AM
RaceFan - Your post is the smartest one I've read on the blogs regarding politics. There are so many lies being told about both candidates. Only intelligent voters will ignore the lies, listen to the debates and then decide who to vote for. If you've already made up your mind, you are not a well informed voter!!
Posted by: Phyllis | Sep 19, 2008 12:03:51 PM
And if you think you are going to learn everything about the candidates and their stances on such complex issues as the economy, US security, immigration, government oversite and spending in a series of 3 debates full of rehearsed questions and answers...then you are truly an un informed voter. But, that will clearly be the likely scenario for many americans.
Posted by: Michael | Sep 19, 2008 12:45:46 PM
Michael,
Times have changed too much for us to just vote for the "party". We need to start voting for the "person". But since we can't believe the candidates speeches, we can't believe their ads, we can't believe the media, now we can't believe the debates. How in the hell are we going to know who to vote for.
Posted by: Phyllis | Sep 19, 2008 4:37:39 PM
Where i am going has become a bigger deal than i had thought. My hopes are to stay at Penske and continue to coach and carrier. Lots of people think im heading over to Hass to be with Borland and Newman. Hopefully things will work out pretty soon.

Is this a RACING BLOG?
Posted by: Shop_dog | Sep 20, 2008 10:06:25 AM
Shop dog, this blog is about racing but politics and racing go hand in hand. Sometimes we get off path but we ll find our way back. It never hurts to get some opinions and talk about it. The racing vote is a big part of the NC vote so its interesting to me to see how people feel. Thats all.

And supports sex education for kindergartners.

not that you will be able to actually understand this, but here goes, obama voted for a bill to educate children about the dangers of sexual predators.
having a 6 year old in my house, i continually warn her about bad people who might try to grab her if she ever happened to be walking (which never happens) by herself in our neighborhood.
just like i've told her a couple jillion times to not play in the street and when she is about to cross the street to look both ways or she could get squashed like a bug.
no wonder you are a complete idiot, you listen to the drug addict who can't stay married casue he is impotent. apparently taking a couple hundred oxys a week din't do much for his little penis.
as for your new hero ms "i can almost see russia from the west side of my state so i must be a foreign policy expert" palin, ask her about HER pastor who's from africa and brags about chasing a witch from his village and how he cleansed the evil spell that floated above it.
"Paid himself 100 million and had to be ousted.'
you really believe this random stupid shit, don't you.
