Meet blogger Carol Einarsson

EDITOR'S NOTE: Meet Carol Einarsson, who will be one of the regular writers in this blog space on ThatsRacin.com. We'll let Carol introduce herself. After that, her first step into The Infield will appear.

Hey, you found me!

I'm Carol Einarsson, or as some folks know me, "That CHEERS and JEERS Lady". We won't go into some of the other nicknames you might have heard, because after all, this is a family site. Yes, I'm opinionated. And usually blatantly biased. See, that's why I write opinions and not statistical handbooks about racing.
I've been watching NASCAR racing since 1990, and been writing about it since 1997. Writing has always been my passion, and they say you should write about what you love. So here I am. Oh, and you can find three of my stories in the book, "Chicken Soup for the NASCAR Soul."
Racing and writing, though, aren't first in my life. First, of course, is faith. You'll see that interwoven in my writing. Second, then, is my dear son Colby. He is "the assistant" that you'll sometimes read about in my writing. He is also my star pupil, as he is home schooled, and I am his teacher (and principal, and bus driver, and school janitor...).
People often ask me who my favorite driver is because they can't seem to figure it out. But that remains a secret. Actually, I have several favorites, and you'll learn soon enough who those drivers are.
I look forward to this new season of writing at ThatsRacin.com. So drop me a line and let me know your thoughts!

By CAROL EINARSSON

I was just wonderin’….

If Domino’s Pizza is the “official” pizza of NASCAR, I wonder why it’s Pizza Hut that puts driver’s pictures on their boxes.

And which would you choose, a company who throws money at NASCAR to buy an “official” name, or a company that stands behind those drivers it sponsors by putting their pictures on the pizza boxes and maybe even growing the sport by piquing the curiosity of folks that wonder who those guys are, so they tune in to their first race? (Yes, that WAS all one sentence… thanks for noticing.)

I wonder what it would take to get Wally to drive Beth Ann Morganthal around the track a few times in his Wally’s World spot.

Remember when you started your first “real” job in your chosen field? And how when you were new, you sought approval from those that had been on the job for a long time?  And how you just wanted to make sure you did a good job so the boss would keep you around?  Surely you didn’t consider getting into a screaming match with a coworker. Or tripping him in the hallway. No, because you might lose your job. Now I wonder, why doesn’t rookie Kyle Busch get that?

And if, as a rookie, he’s already being fined $10,000 by NASCAR, I wonder what years two, three, four, and five might bring?  Do you think the other drivers are happy to have him around simply because they know he’ll grow the fund that they’ll be part of at the end of the year?

Fifteen years old. That’s the age of Joey Logano. You know, fifteen. Awkward 15, when your arms and legs are growing faster than your coordination can keep up. But instead of wondering how he’s going to get his homework done, he’s in the middle of Joe Gibbs and Jack Roush, with everyone seeing talent in this boy worth millions. And what’s with everyone fleeing Jack Roush, anyhow?

Starting this weekend, NASCAR finally mandated the maximum camber. Y’think they got so tired of seeing the weekly camber lesson on NBC that they figured this was the best way to end the insanity?

Let me see if I understand this… Will Farrell is putting together a NASCAR comedy, and one of the lead characters will be a homosexual French driver?  Good grief.

I think we all know that Morgan-McClure isn’t one of the top teams, but if they give a job to John Andretti, they’re movin’ up the list in my eyes. I wonder when, though, they’re going to figure out that it’s not so much about the driver over there.

I wonder if I’m the only one so starved for a news show (and missing ESPN) that I’m willing to tune in September 12th and watch Geoffrey Bodine host a show. C’mon, like stopping at the train wreck, you know you wanna watch!

Kevin Harvick says he wants to see some improvements at RCR before he re-signs a contract. Hmmm.. Wouldn’t it be something if one of those improvements was a new driver for the 29 car?

And another thing….

I’m all for Office Depot giving 99 kids free tickets to celebrate (celebrate?) “Back to School”. But since they’re starting the school year off with a field trip, it seems they ought to give those tickets as an award to the top students rather than “underprivileged” children. Now before you click on that email button, I’m certainly not saying we shouldn’t help others, because I believe we ought to. But maybe what Office Depot could do would be to REALLY invest in these kids and make sure that they have all the school supplies they need – for free – and that they stay in school and get good grades. Then at the end of the year, if they achieve a “B” average, they get to go to a race.  But wait… this isn’t about a genuine interest in the welfare of the children, but rather, it’s about appearing to care just so folks will think kindly of you and buy more stuff.

Carol, Congratulations on getting another notch in your stylus by blogging for Thatsracin! As you know, I enjoy your regular columns, and find it really doesn't matter who your favorite drivers are! I think your assistant has his heart in the right place as far as NASCAR nice guys to cheer for!

Congrats on the column placement!

The Labonte brothers are two of her favorites!! And Michael is "precious" right Carol?

Posted by: truracinfan | Aug 22, 2005 6:01:27 AM

Thanks, Bruce! It's very exciting to be over here writing. I hope everyone finds me in my new home -- spread the word!

And truraceinfan, Yes, he IS precious!

In regards to Kyle Busch...how much was Tony Stewart fined during his rookie season? I would hate to see Kyle turn into an ignorant human being like Tony.

Welcome, Carol. I love Cheers and Jeers and I'm looking forward to your blog.

get off tony or he may just rip you a new one

Carol,

I think I'm going to enjoy your blog. My wife and I homescholled our son and daughter as well. Kyle is kinda young and impatient, but I think most of the guys like how he reces. Refer to the post pocono comments by Mark Martin on national TV. I didn't, however, care much for his comments when he broke during yeasterdays Michigan race.

Posted by: John | Aug 22, 2005 1:22:54 PM

LOL theres a "Chicken soup for the Nascar Soul" book? And they did tell you you didn't have to put "ALL" your thought's in one blog didn't they? But welcome to the club.

Posted by: Keith | Aug 22, 2005 3:11:33 PM

Welcome to ThatsRacin, Carol. I look forward to reading your blogs, as I have always enjoyed your other columns. Mostly your 'Cheers and Jeers'.

Posted by: 24Bill48 | Aug 23, 2005 3:51:38 AM

Hey John, thanks for the welcome! I must have missed Mark's post race comments about Kurt. I know others have written to me and shared quotes that he's made saying that he admires Kurt. They wondered how I felt about that, given that I have such admiration for Mark Martin. My answer to that is that I can admire a guy and not agree with his every thought and opinion. I don't like his taste in music, nor do I agree with his assessment of Kurt Busch.

Keith,
Believe me, those weren't nearly "all" my thoughts. My blogs will likely be a lot longer than the average blog. Maybe you can read in parts. I'm very accustomed to writing lengthy columns (for those with long attention spans), and haven't yet decided if I want to shorten up to play to those used to blogs, or not change a thing so that my regular readers won't feel cheated. Oh, and sometimes my sentences are really long, too.

C

Posted by: Carol | Aug 23, 2005 9:24:02 AM

Josh & Bill,
Thanks for the welcome! My hope is that all the regular readers will find me here, so spread the word! Eventually, I might have a few different columns moved over here in more of a blog format.

Hey there Carol,

I hope this doesn't mean and end to the CHEERS and JEERS, I Wonder and What's Your Beef columns!!!

Yes found you and i liked your blog, will try to remember to check back weekly to see what you have to say

Posted by: Don | Aug 23, 2005 5:10:53 PM

Carol,

I am so excited to see another column by you but this doesn't mean you wont be doing your other ones does it?? I love them all; CHEERS and JEERS, I Wonder and What's your Beef, I can't live without them.

BTW how's the dingo, still drinking out of the toliet..LOL!!!

Posted by: Bobbie | Aug 23, 2005 5:42:22 PM

You just ruined my best racing site. Do not like Carol anymore since you turned against Jr. But I know the reason, your darling little assistant. So please keep your inflammatory remarks about Jr. to yourself. Joyce

Posted by: Joyce Leibelt | Aug 23, 2005 8:52:27 PM

If you've been to my site Carol you know you are my inspiration!

Posted by: Tubgirl | Aug 23, 2005 9:09:02 PM

Bob,
I'm in a bit of a quandary about all the columns. Bob (Henry) says not to think in terms of a column because a blog is different, but really I think he says that because maybe he doesn't realize that I've always written my columns in a "bloggy" way. So I think the format can work here for some of them. I think IWJW will definitely work. I'm worried about WYB, though, because I think people will stop emailing me (at CheersJeers@aol.com) and that is what generates the content of WYB. Any ideas on that? I think CJ might simply be too long for the space, but I won't know for certain until I start updating this space myself, and I'm not sure that's going to happen before a couple of weeks. And then there's CTS CJ...

If I could get everyone to follow over here and read my stuff, then it would work, but presently I'm sort of getting the idea that readers of traditional bloggers might think I'm too wordy.

And Jay (of Jayski fame) doesn't typically post links to bloggers. I understand why (multitude of reasons, not the least of which is probably because of add-on comments like these that may or may not even be pertinent or pleasant), but I worry that without him posting the link, the regular readers of CJ, IWJW, WYB, WILAY, and others might just think I finally died of injuries sustained by a wild dingo in the house. I hope word gets out.

Bobbi,
Of COURSE he's still drinking from the "big white dish in the bathroom"!

See the note I just wrote to Bob about the continuance of my regular columns. They'll be SOMEwhere.. just not sure of all the logistics at this point.

Posted by: Carol | Aug 23, 2005 11:35:52 PM

Joyce,
I'm flattered that you think I can single-handedly ruin TR.com. And I think you stopped reading too soon. My assistant has come around and likes Junior again. Something about him becoming an underdog, and now Colby is rooting for him.

So after I ruined the entire site, did I just now redeem it?

TO THE EDITOR:

Why Einarsson of all people? Why? Opinionated is one thing; delusional is another.

For the benefit of Mikey's fans, CE is the latter.

Posted by: Tammy M | Aug 24, 2005 8:06:22 AM

If she refers to Jeremy one more time as Germy - thatsracin.com will be out of my favorites list!!!

Posted by: Brenda | Aug 24, 2005 9:35:17 AM

Brenda -
Have you never heard Jeremy be called Germy before? He has had that nickname for several years. If I am not mistaken, I think it comes from the way an annoucer pronounced his name - he would say it as Germy instead of Jeremy.
Kinda like McMurray being McMary... it is just a joke.

Posted by: truracinfan | Aug 24, 2005 11:33:17 AM

I would hate to lose Cheers and Jeers, but I am really happy at the thought of you blogging! Hate on Jr all you want-Jr nation will just have to come back to reality and realize the golden child is not perfect and that he CAN be criticized. Just don't keep on hatin' on Martin Truex Jr just because of his slightly unholy affliation with DEI, mmmkay? ;)

Posted by: Lucky | Aug 24, 2005 3:24:02 PM

Tammy,
Thanks for showing my new boss how I can bring controversy to the table. Opinionated and delusional. That's quite a talented balance. I wonder if I'll get a raise already.

C

Posted by: Carol | Aug 25, 2005 12:19:54 AM

Brenda,
Would you feel better if I spelled it Jermy? Then it's just a couple of missing e's. Germy is just more fun.

And trueracinfan,
Yes, it was the great Buddy Baker who calls him Germy-- er, I mean Jermy.

Lucky,
No worries... CHEERS and JEERS won't go away. We may have to herd some folks over here to find it, and maybe even train all the experienced blog readers to appreciate
a good 2500-word opinion.

C

Posted by: Carol | Aug 25, 2005 12:28:54 AM

I love, love CJ and WYB so please work out those logistics. Also, as a diehard Jr. fan I think for others to say you hate Jr. is a bit harsh. I have even noticed some sympathy from you lately over his dejected hangdog look this year. And I know one of your most poigant memories is of Junior running hard to check on his buddy Steve Park when he wrecked at Pocono. I enjoy reading your take on Nascar because you are an intelligent observer with a mother hen attitude. You go girl!

Posted by: Jackie | Aug 25, 2005 6:09:50 PM

Carol, it's good to see you can stir the pot in whatever kitchen you happen to be cooking. Is your blog going to be updated on a particular day or are you going to "force" us to come back on a daily basis to see what's new?

Posted by: Bob | Aug 26, 2005 6:53:06 AM

Jackie,

You hit the nail on the head (several times, even).

I could never hate Dale Earnhardt Jr for many of those reasons. The jog to his father's car, the run to Steve Park, the Chocolate hug, and the most recent photo that we saw in the photo gallery here at TR.com with him sitting alone in the garage with his head in his hands.. hate him? Nope, not gonna happen.

Intelligent observer with a mother hen attitude. I like that.. thanks.

Bob,
Once I get settled in here and can update at will, I'll try to revert back to the same schedule that everyone is so compfortable with. If C&J migrates here, too, then that may move to a Monday column (I said MAY move to Monday). I might work on a way of answering the mail here in a blog column rather than here in a string of posts this way. I don't know.. I'll have to see what "the boss" prefers.

Hi Carol,

I have been a long time reader of your work at the other site, but I do like the format of this site, so I was especially happy to see you over here. Just a quick question, would you be able to post a photo of yourself? I would really like to have a face with thoughts. I understand of course if thats not something you want to do. Please don't move the cheers and jeers though, they look so good in black, red and green, it wouldn't be the same on a white background.

Jeers to thatsracin.com for having such a self professed biased person writing a column. I liked this site until I found this column. All racing fans aren't Hendricks haters. I don't ask for preference just equality.

Posted by: L Ancona | May 16, 2006 6:14:55 AM

Jeers to Carol Einarsson for her obvious hate and jealousy of Jeff Gordon. Gordon is a four time champion and one of the best drivers in NASCAR history. Carol, you are a biased idiot. Suck it up already!

Posted by: Amanda | May 16, 2006 10:43:47 AM

Yes, lets all LOOOVE every single driver out there. No one can have any opinion that disagrees with anyone else. Everyone that disagrees with Carol should go get their own column. If you don't like it, don't read it! Your blood pressure will stay down and you'll live longer which is a good thing even if you are a Gordon fan.

Carol I am proud of you for breaking your silence and giving your take on the whole ugly Evernham Crocker disaster. The irony is people had been pushing poole to do a piece on it for a long tiem, but only when you stepped up to the plate did the old goat budge (and steal your thunder).

Keep fighting the good fight, even if it means danger, like probing into a certain Lexus driving erratically in Daytona a few weeks back.

Get em champ!
