Need something better
By Krista Voda
Ok, bloggers...NASCAR needs us.
New fans start watching our sport. They find themselves addicted to the fast-paced, adrenaline-filled experience that is NASCAR. They understand that this new points system adds extra intensity, allowing just ten drivers to scrape and claw their way to the title. These ten are Warriors. Gladiators. Chasers?
To me, a chaser is something you throw down after really bad (or any, for that matter) tequila.
Surely, there is a better way to describe the ten guys who are vying for a championship.
So...it's your turn. Is there a better word, maybe a phrase, to define the drivers who are striving for NASCAR's biggest prize? And remember, it has to be concise enough to use both in print and broadcast. Something catchy, but effective.
Help...and hurry! Another 6 weeks of hearing "chaser" every other sentence (and I've used it too) may drive me to drink. Meaning, unfortunately, even more chasers.

How about the 10 for this season being known as "The Cream Of 05" as in cream of the crop.

how about "the meat of the gimmick sandwich" or "the punchlines to the joke that is the chase".
nah, those are probably too long to say in interviews.
