Talladega Notes and I missed that Meeting!
By Keith Ott
Note 1: Do you think maybe they should have included Vickers in the team meetings? At least he would have known the team colors. If there was or is a meeting this week will he be invited? If you were he would you really want to go?
Note 2: Jr. seemed to be the only one not really upset with Vickers. If ever there were a time for a 25pt word, that would have seemed like a perfect opportunity to me. I was actually impressed with his maturity. Kudos on the team also. They gave Jr. the best car in the race. I think some may want to redo their notes on DEI plate racing. It’s back!
Note 3: Danica Patrick might find it harder to just use her sex to get into NASCAR these days. After all, we already have a drama queen…Jeff Gordon. He sounded like a little girl whining about bump drafting. Jeff if you’re scared, say you’re scared. Oh wait, I guess you did.
Note 4: My eliminations continue. Sorry Mr. Johnson, due to your teammate’s help, “You are the weakest link.” Mr(s). Gordon would have taken that long lonely ride into the sunset (cue the harmonica) but, due to circumstances, we now find the #24 “On the Bubble.” Real points are in the link below. The 48 remains in 8th because of the remaining Chasers but will easily graduate into 3rd as eliminations continue. http://www.nascar.com/races/cup/2006/data/standings_whatif.html
Note 5: I’m not sure who paved Talladega, but I’m betting they’ll be getting a bunch of phone calls. The track was awesome. If the Norfolk area hired these people to do the roads around here there would be a lot less road rage.
Note 6: If you say there’s debris, then show the debris. What a concept!!! There’s 6 million (ok I exaggerated a bit) HDTV cameras and the sky-cam that amazes DW to death. So, if you see debris, and it brings out a caution, then we want to see it too!
Thoughts:
-Benny Parsons looked great. The man is a warrior.
-“Lame Duck,” means never having to say you’re sorry.

Keith,
1) If I was Brian, I would go to the meetings just to piss them off. LOL
2) I am sure Jr. was not happy. I bet someone talked to him before he got out of the car.
3) Can someone just tell Jeff to shut up! I hope Jr. does what he says and does not draft with him anymore. I can only imagine what Dale Sr. would have said if he heard Jeff complaining.
4) I hate to say this because I want Dale Jr. to win the title but I think anyone over 100 points is out of the hunt. Too hard to jump all the other drivers.
5) That was such an exciting race. I heard several drivers talking about the paving job.
6) I think we are asking to much to see the debris :)

1. I think the next Hendrick team meeting Vickers is invited to attend will be the one in which someone tells him, "Brian, your services as a driver are no longer required."
2. Junior had a strong run, stronger than many (including yours truly) expected. But he was going to wind up third if not for a last-lap wreck.
3. Danica doesn't whine nearly as much as Jeffie. She seems a whole lot more likely to punch somebody's lights out rather than cry about them if they do her wrong.
4. If Johnson makes it as high as third, he will have to do some very tall stepping and some other guys are going to have to do some world-class stumbling.
5. The new pavement sure looked smooth, for sure. Did anybody else think the new lane striping made the track look narrower than it used to?
6. Careful what you ask for. If TV can superimpose sponsor logos and things like "starting line" and "pit in/pit out" on the track, they can use computer generation to show us debris. In other words, seeing is not necessarily believing.
