Just Shut Up...You Tell Me
By Mark Young
Well the Shootout has come and gone, pole qualifying is in the books as well and with the exceptions of the yet to be determined Michael Waltrip controversy things are business as usual in Daytona. Unfortunately that means there is not a whole of yappin' going on making my job a little difficult in telling who to shut up. So what I figure I will do is ask you my fellow fan to voice your opinion as to who should Just Shut Up.
I was going to give the award to Darrell Waltrip after his terrible job of trying to be non-partisan during the Bud Shootout broadcast. He just kept harping and harping about Toyota coming into NASCAR. Darrell, we have known this for over a year, enough already.
I also thought about calling out the media in general to shut up about the constant digging Junior about the contract talks and issues within DEI. But once the cars hit the track that went away.....some.
Outside of those two thoughts I am out of juice. You guys tell me who should shut up, TR.com is fan fueled so voice your opinion!!

More than anything else, Darrell needs to do some more homework on things to talk about than his brother, Toyota, and get a new race start war yell. Just a little variety more than BBB.
Have a good one,
Mike

Who needs to shut up? All the crew chiefs that are being penalized need to shut up...we don't want to hear any excuses or reasons. They are there to put together the best possible equipment they can, within the bounds of the rulebook. When they exceed those bounds, for any reason, they absolutely deserve whatever punishment is handed to them.

I am with you 100% on that one Sparrow!! Looks like Mikey is going to get the hammer slammed on him, more tom come.....

Well if you can't decide, neither can I so I give you two to choose from. 1) I think its time Jimmy Spencer shut up about Kurt Busch. Kurt has accomplished far more in six years than Jimmy did in an entire career. Its to a point now that it is just pathetic sour grapes. 2) I think its time for Tony Stewart to shut up about respect on the race track. One only needs to have seen last years Daytona 500 and this years Bud Pole Shootout to understand that that is a oneway street in Tony's world.

What the heck Mark, make it Jack Roush again! lol
I agree with Bob. Tony again. Here this guy wrecks people left and right just because he's mad at them and then he has the nerve to scream about young drivers having no patience.

Has anyone else ever noticed that Jeff Gordon is the golden "California" boy when he races on the left coast and is the hometown "Indiana" boy when racing at Indy? Just curious, a nice change of subject.

Mark, great though,
I am tired of the "let's cinch them belt's tight" " B x 3"
lets get something new.
and yes leave Jr alone.

Who should shut up right now? Brian "Chuck Sullivan" France.
Posted by: Mike Daly | Feb 14, 2007 3:42:31 PM
Hi Mark,
Although I can agree on your point of DW with his Toyota business, my choice would be the crew chiefs with their excuses of not knowing what's wrong. When you're a crew chief for that long time, you should know how the rules are. And when you try to get on the edge, take your responsibility and don't some with any excuses.

I would like to see Brian (Naw officer, that wasn't me drivin drunk agin!) France. What a hypocrite. I am so sick of the Politically Correct, New NASCAR. Bill France, Lee Petty and Dale Ernhardt must be rolling in their graves. When the Car of Tomorrow arrives I will finally stop watching NASCAR all together.
BTW, If I wanted NASCAR to be more like football, I would watch football. Make NASCAR worldwide? Brian what have you been smoking? Please, can someone fire Brian France before he destroys the sport all together?

Trucker,
Shirley and Diane will get you for that. But, I agree. It's like, "You da Man," or any number of sayings. Get over it...keep it fresh.

Mike Daly I actually agree with you!!!
Great thoughts guys.....

Mark, when I was watching and listening to the Clash...whoops...Shootout, I noticed DW talking about the Toyotas more than he was talking about the race. But considering I've been a fan of Darrell's since the mid-70s, and it was only on for 2 hours, I tried to ignore it.
But then there was qualifying on Sunday. That's when I yelled at the TV: "just shut up!" and thought of you!
I do agree, Mark, that it's been well over a year since Toyota announced they were joining Cup. What's the big deal?
But I also agreed with Darrell that Michael did a lot in a short period of time to pull together a brand new three car team. However, making the statement once was sufficient.
I think it was about the 20th time he mentioned David Reutimann that I felt so terribly bad for the poor guy. For those that don't know him, they are going to be sick of him before he has a chance to prove himself, if Darrell does the same during the Twins...geez...Duels.
And that is the main reason I agree that Darrell Waltrip needs to:
Just Shut Up!
But Cale Yarborough didn't nickname him "Jaws" without a reason!
I'm sure you won't have a problem finding someone to share the honor next week! Good luck!

BTW Ron, don't tell me that you don't miss boogity, boogity, boogity from July through February.
He might not sell more cases to run more races, but DW certainly can sell t-shirts and those crazy flip flops for $29.99. UGH!

I agree with KurtMan ... my nomination is Jack Roush. Old story now, but my "shut up" is for the NEXT TIME he wants to empart his wisdom on the NASCAR fan base ...

I think by the time the checkered flag falls on Sunday old DW will have more than earned the "shut up award". I'm almost looking forward to his spin on Mikey's penalties. (at least the first time he says it) Has NASCAR ever thrown a whole team out for 6-8 weeks before?
Posted by: boogity | Feb 14, 2007 5:30:20 PM
I'm with Ron on the Brian France conspiracy, but I'm split with my complete distaste for the Waltrip clan in general. Tell 'em all to shut their trap or splinter off a new series like the XFL or something.

Hey Mark,
Shut up Jimmy Spencer.
His "high & mighty stance about Mikey and or cheating in general. Kyle Petty said even his house was glass.
Jimmy needs some sour grapes to go with that cigar.

Boogity: What "whole team"?..... What "6 to 8 weeks"?..... Did I miss something here?
Posted by: SrRaceFan | Feb 14, 2007 7:50:31 PM
amen to leaving Junior alone too deal with thersa.....DW made one good point....."without Junior, what is DEI other than a museum".....and stewart has always been a cry baby.....
Posted by: scott | Feb 14, 2007 7:55:36 PM
Holy Cow a Flatlander sighting!!! Thanks for stopping by Pyatt.
Well now that that stuff has hit the fan let's see how much 'ol DW will jabber about Mikey and his Toyotas.

Mark -- it's Valentine's Day! After you tell whomever "just shut up," you have to add, "But you know I love you!"

Who needs to? Jack Roush! SHUT UP!...My message to Michael Waltrip
Shut Up and Race...you've got too many Irons in the fire...pick 3 and run with it...let me give you a hint; 1 Run your team as if you where Donald Trump(no bad hair puns intended)2Drive your NAPA Camry like you stole it(...Nah)3 Stick to Inside Nextel Cup

PLEASE TELL "HIS ROYAL HINNEY SPIN MASTER (SPENCER) TO SHUT UP.....I GUESS WHEN (TEAM OWNERS GOT SMART) THE OWNER KNEW EVERYTHING THAT WENT INTO THE CARS......SPENCER NEEDS TO GO...HOW WAS MIKEY TO KNOW (STAND RIGHT THERE AND WATCH THEM ALL THE TIME)..I THINK HIS ROYAL HINNEY IS JEALOUS OF MIKEY & EVERYONE THAT HAS MADE IT IN THE RACING WORLD........

I'm with the..... Jimmy Spencer needs to SHUT UP. I can barely stand to listen to him speak. He by far is one of the most, if not the most BIASED commentators in Nascar today. If it weren't for John Roberts, Kenny Wallace, and some of the others. I'd never ever watch that show. God help the people "sitting with him" for the Daytona.
My second vote goes to DW. Can't wait to hear all his "spins" and or "back peddling" he's gonna do with the current situation.
JMHO's
Have a good one.
