Just Shut Up Kyle Busch
By Mark Young
Now I am sure some of you out there are shaking your head wondering how in the world I could crown Kyle Busch King Of The Mountain on Monday and then tell him to Shut Up in my next post. Well my friends Kyle asked for it by mistaking victory lane for a podium. "They suck" was his quote on national TV when asked what he thought about the Car of Tomorrow, real smooth Kyle, real smooth. My response to you is quite simple, JUST SHUT UP!!!
U WANT SOME?
In case you missed the race, or in some cases forgot there was a race because everyone was so worried about the COT, Kyle Busch was the first NASCAR driver to win a race in the COT. Quite the dubious honor considering all of the hype, build-up, and criticism that surrounded this seven year project.
Young man you don't seem to understand that you get paid to drive a race car for a living, a pretty lucrative living at that I might add. Now I am sure that every time you strap into a race car it isn't perfect. If it was you would have more than just four victories in your very young career. You have a ton of talent and I respect that, I know I can't do what you do. But to shoot off and say “I said that I wanted to go out and win this race so I could tell everybody how terrible this thing is to drive, I can’t stand to drive them. They suck.” doesn't show much class. I can name a handful of drivers that sat at home on Sunday who failed to qualify that would donate bodily organs to stand where you did.
I understand that everyone has the right to free speech but that was not the right place or the right time to do it. The COT is not going away so get used to it. If you don't like it then go to the Busch Series and drive there. Show us that you are a good driver and adapt to what you have to run. I have no doubt that you can do it, just show some class and do your criticizing constructively.
That's what I think, what say you?

I'd rather hear some honesty from a driver even if it's a driver I don't particularly care for.
If you're gonna praise or criticize the guy at least spell his last name correctly.

Barb thanks for the heads up. Name corrected.

Actually, I stopped watching the post race interviews long ago. They took all the driver emotion out of it and made them so "PC" I thought I'd been switched to the Disney Channel. So, now I'm sorry I missed this one. If the winner, who just drove the beast 500 laps/2000 left turns says the car sucks, then I'm pretty sure he has earned the right to say so. Why should he sugarcoat it for NASCAR? You keep it up Kyle. I got your back.

I agree, but I don't. These guys are supposed to be the best in the world and get paid more in 1 year than most of us will see in a life time. So, if NASCAR made them drive riding lawn mowers at the track I think they'd still take the money. I'd gladly switch jobs with him. But, if the cars are bad he should say. i'd rather have someone tell the truth and speak his mind than give us the same line of crap we get every week. Think how boring it would be without Stewart, the Busch brothers, or Robby Gordon.

Sorry, Mark, I had no problem at all with what Kyle said. Joe said it right.
I gotta be careful. I could turn into a Kyle Busch fan.

Mark, I agree with you! Kyle could have done a great interview, but unfortunately, he chose to take the frosting off the cake. I wonder how the car manufacturer feels about Kyle's comment - not all the COT's are the same make, have the same engine builder, etc. His comment reflects on all who participated in building his car - wonder how they feel? Yes, they won, but Kyle's mouth didn't win any friends in his own organization. Maybe they'll give him junk this next weekend.... Ya dasn't bite the hand that feeds ya!

I completely disagree with you this time Mark! Yes Joe, you are right on!
I am absolutely NOT a fan of Kyle but why shouldn't he be able to say how he feels. Mark (and others), are you saying that you don't make comments when your employer makes changes that you feel makes your job more difficult? I sure as hell do! Don't go there about how much $$ they make vs. what we make. It is still a JOB that has others making decisions for them!
Is only people that fit into a certain pay scale allowed to complain! I don't think so. JMO

How long does anyone think it will take the Nascar gestapo, to take retaliatory action for Kyles non-PC comments? Not long you can bet!!

Just because the cheif brainwizards down in Concord decide that they need to model nascar after the "Daytona Prototype" does not mean it's a better car...call like you see it a turd is a turd...I get sick of everyone kissin Pope Brians pompous a**!
YOU WANT SOME! I Pi** excellence in the mornin'

Hey you all make great points. And like I said he has every right to say what he wants. I just think it was done completely wrong. KS made comments about complaining at work, darn right I b*tch about it but ultimately I have to do what they say or get another job.
Should NASCAR go after him for his thoughts? NO!! I am just saying that there is a time and a place for everything and that was not the right time or place to say those things.
Thanks for your thoughts guys.

If Jeff Gordon said it most people would say nothing.Just becouse it was a Busch that said it, and you know how they think about them, everybodys talking s@@@.Did Brian France get out of that DWI

Remember Kyle said Saturday that Mike Wallace was stupid and a moron and pathetic.
Kyle has alot of talent, but I would pay to see Jimmy Spencer shut him up like Jimmy did Kurt.
Posted by: Deb | Mar 28, 2007 1:05:23 PM
Mark,
Have you driven one of the COTs? If you have, then perhaps you can tell us just why Kyle's comments were wrong. If you haven't, then why don't you shut up and leave the comments to those who know what they are talking about? I'm no Kyle-hugger, but I refuse to critique someone for providing an honest answer to a question that is posed to them.

Wasn't very tactful of Shrub, but, he does have a right to complain. It's naive to think they aren't risking life and limb each time they jump in a car. Can't take the millions they make along if they "check out".
Of course there's a few ways to look at the new car. Bad handling equals driver talent and slower speeds, but, more potential crashing. The old car handled better and went faster, but, potentialy crashed harder. :P

Robert, I didn't say that WHAT he said was wrong. Read my post again, I said I couldn't do his job. What I did say was HOW and WHEN he said it was wrong.

As my momma said, consider the source. Kyle is, and has always been, a lil' spoiled brat, who eventually, somebody will shut up. He may share his opinion, but consider the language, and the audience he is speaking to. I don't know why Burton dint plant him in the fence. I know Kyle didnt wreck him at Cally, but it wasnt from lack of effort, he admitted as much.

Mark, I agree with you 100%. I didn't watch the entire race, cuz I was watching the NCAA Tournament. But I did catch Kyle's comment that the car "sucked" and it was hard to drive.
EXCUSE ME?
He got paid more for that one race than I will earn in 7 years.
So NASCAR decided the Cup series is using a new car. Big deal. If he truly is as good as everyone says he is, it shouldn't matter.
I'd LOVE to have the chance he has been given.
I was gaining a small amount of respect for him after he congratulated Jeff Burton at Fontana (or was it Vegas), but he fell back down on my "likeable meter" again on Sunday.
He and all the other drivers/teams need to "just shut up" and race.
Well done, Mark!

"It sucks" was a silly comment that only made him sound like a "sore winner" -- like Tony a couple weeks ago.
"It won't turn" and "We need more height to play with on the splitter" -- the things he said during his Victory Lane interview -- are constructive comments that give the team and the Nascar officials something to work with.
I'm more amused than annoyed. Young people feel things so PASSIONATELY and I'm old enough to remember such feelings and smile. But he needs a little talk from someone older and wiser about not presenting the appearance of ingratitude, about offering constructive criticism, and about how to present opinions in a way that encourages people to listen to them rather than dismiss them.
Its entirely possible that the Nascar powers that be had intended to talk to the winning driver and get some feedback. But the way Kyle expressed his opinion ensured that they wouldn't bother.
I'm a tremendous Kyle Busch fan, but in this case I'm with Jimmy Spencer* on this -- shut up and drive it. ;-)
*I suspect Spencer of being a Kyle Busch fan too because Jimmy never misses an oppertunity to say something good about the kid.

Kyle does in fact make millions from his talents just like all the other drivers. That however, doesn't take away from the fact his right to express his opinion, like us for example. At least he has the balls to tell it like he thinks it is, or not. There are only a few drivers that aren't PC, and I respect them for that. As for the rest, "suck up to Nascar because I'm making money" regarless of what I might like to say.
Like I stated previously, Nascar, will show Shrub, who's in charge. Probably as soon as Sunday. You know it's coming. Just like the mystery debris caution. He will be lucky to get his car back from Brians thugs.

Shirley,
So, he makes more than you do in 7 yrs. It's not his fault he got the chance to drive. And, since he won the race, I guess he did shut up and drive the car...That doesn't mean it didn't suck or that he shouldn't have expressed himself on that fact, after the event. After 2000 left turns in a POS, I'm not sure I would have been that nice. I have no problem with him stating his opinion, at the time he did, and NASCAR was the one who wisely shut up.

M.B. Voelker - What you said was simply....Perfect!
....p.s. I chuckled when I heard his comments too!....then I shook my head and said to myself.... "that's Kyle"..lol, lol, lol.
Yet another good subject. Kudos to you Mark!
Have a good one.

@Reginald,
Nascar gave Kyle's car back by midday on Monday.
@Ann,
Thank you.

Right on Mark. I really think Kyle Busch deserved that win on Sunday. He's been driving the wheels off at every race this year so it was just a matter of time. However, I do have to question how these Busch brothers were raised to be the way they are. To say they are spoiled, whiney brats is an understatement. They do not have any class. I see Kyle has taken up surfing. I wish I could be there when he breaks some of the rules on the waves. The arguement won't be long before Kyle paddles away missing a few teeth.

Kyle is good but he needs to be thankful for the chance to do what he does and make the money he does. Could any of us stand on a world stage and say our company sucks because it changed. Of course not. Could we stand there and say a coworker is stupid, moron and pathetic. Of course not. The Busch boys take their opportunity for granite. It makes me crazy to see all the disrespect the Busch boys have. I would love to see the Busch boys drive the old cars from the 70's when Nascar was stock cars. I would love to see one of the boys mouth off to Cale, Bobby, David, Buddy, Fireball and on and on. It would be the last time. These guys are suppose to be the best of the best. Why can't someone explain that to Kyle's mouth.
Posted by: Deb | Mar 28, 2007 7:03:30 PM
Sure, Kyle has the right to say what he wants. Sure, some of us (most of us?) want to hear candid comments, not PC-speak, from drivers.
The questions are, did Busch use his free speech right wisely and did he really give us anything substantive to chew on in this rant? I have to say "no" to both questions.
I guess my patience is worn thin by dealing with the handful of 15- and 16-year-olds who think every little problem is the end of the world. Busch isn't much older than my 10th graders, and he acts just about like the most immature of them sometimes.
The kid sure can drive, and his judgment is getting a lot better -- in the car, that is. Seems to me that all he did in his spoiled-brat comment was throw cold water on his own victory celebration. Just why he felt compelled to do that, I'll never understand.
