Who Needs a Pension Plan? Sit, Mikey, Sit!
By Keith Ott
Hey, I’m going to keep it short and simple: Who, needs a pension plan when teams like MWR/Toyota hire every aged shoe that has a provisional? The Champions Provisional has gotten out of control. It may be a sly move by the team. But, the provisional was never intended to give floundering teams six free shots into the show. It was meant to honor a Champion and give him an opportunity to race at events special to him. It’s being abused and needs to be restructured. It honors no-one in its current form.
Mikey has proven to me, once again, that he needs to get out of the car and either develop as an owner or jump into the booth. And, I don’t say this because I hate the guy. I don’t. He’s lost the racers edge/confidence/karma. Whatever you want to call it, he doesn’t have it anymore. He’s the Owner and the driver and he pulled himself out of an event. If he had an argument with himself, and I have a funny picture of that in my mind, then the owner inside won. Racers want to race. When a racer loses “it” it’s time to pass the baton. Sit, Mikey, sit! JMO
LOL, did you hear Jr. went to Hendricks?
Your thoughts?

Keith - I agree that the past champion's provisional has outlived its usefulness, especially seeing guys like Bill Elliott and Terry Labonte, obviously guys that just aren't into the competition aspect anymore, getting into cars just so teams can get into the field.
But you can't blame teams for trying to take advantage of loopholes...especially when there is a rigid rule in place that assures that struggling teams will be fighting for just eight spots.

Kurt,
I don't blame them. The "Top35 Farce." will be next on my list.
