NASCAR Went to Loudon and a Race Showed Up
By Keith Ott
I think this may have been one of the best events this season. An actual event with a real racing finish. Who’da thunk it would turn up in Loudon? (David Green, my apologies for the grammar.) Was it the COT? Was it just racing karma? Who cares? But, here’s just my quick take on Loudon.
I like the 3PM starts. Sunday should be a family day. 1pm is so, “in the middle.” Any morning activity is rushed to conclusion and mid-day is shot. How about for you fans going to the track? For many, 1pm means a 6am start only to arrive at the waving of the green. Those extra 2hrs equates to a more leisurely drive and more time to tailgate. I like it! It’s a win/win!
Congrats to the “KING,” on making the big Seven-0. Thanks for 70yrs of fun and memories. The only shock here is that Toyota hasn’t hit you up with a ride, yet. Don’t you take any Toyota phone calls, today. Enjoy the day! Favorite memory – watching you chew the towel, doing laps at my first NASCAR event, at the old Richmond fairgrounds.
47 Seconds? And, the answer is...?
A) The time it takes me to make a head call, get a beer, walk the dog, go to 7-11 for more beer and find the remote, again.
Or,
B) The time it takes the 99 crew to change a tire.
I still saw a lot of empty seats at Loudon. Well, that is, whenever TNT viewed them from 6 miles with a telephoto lens. TNT is the master at doing this. And, while I like the race coverage they’ve shown so far this year, some crowd shots wouldn’t hurt.
That’s it for my quick takes. This race gets an A+ in my books. How about yours?
Edit: I forgot the dang wing. It still looks like it's out of the J.C. Whitney catalog. Paint the dang thing. Advertise on it. Do something. NASCAR has always been about the fans identifying with the car. No self respecting street car owner runs around with a black, out of the catalog, spoiler. No way, no how!

Racing was good Keith but I thought the TNT broadcast yesterday was horrible. Who's idea was it to put the big cartoon poles that said "PIT OUT" or "RESTART"? My 8 year old noticed it once and said it was stupid.
They tried to do a fastest speed at the line deal twice and no speeds showed up. then they were doing a bit from the pits that was to include a video but they missed it and showed a car on the track that wasn't even the team they were talking about.
Great racing but I shut the TV off and went to listen to the radio.

Mark,
As a whole, I like them better than the boogity gang. But, you have a point, and I agree. Just because you pay high tech guys to make your show run smoother, it doesn't mean they should be part of the show. If you make it part of the show, ala the NFL and Fox3D, it distracts from the event. KISS, and I've been saying that a lot lately, applies to onscreen graphics as well.
Follow the field; Follow the action. And, keep us informed. If we want CGI, Walmart is 10 minutes away. Good point.
LOL, actually I thought the "Restart" pole was real for a sec...my bad, LOL.
