Im NASCAR Thankful for
By Keith Ott
Hey all, there were a lot of things that didn’t go right
this season. A lot! But, then again, there are still things we
can be thankful for.
#1, on my list, are the crews and drivers: Don’t care who
they work for, or what country their manufacturer has his mansion in, these
guys rock. I don’t even care what they
get paid. Their work is thrilling, scary
and dangerous. That pretty much covers
why we watch, ya think? Them Thar’ guys
have earned a well deserved holiday. I’m
thankful for that.
#2, on my short list, is us. We, the “Real” fans, who sat through this
tedious season, will be back. NASCAR can
and will throw whatever at us, and, at the end of the season, we still love racing. I’m thankful for you guys. Yes, even Mike Daly.
That’s it. It was
a short list, and I have cooking preps to do. Another Sr. Chief and I herded up a few shippies,
from various ships, that had nowhere to go, and we borrowed a few Canadians
(down for exercises) for an American Thanksgiving meal, and, cough, beers and
football. It should be fun. I hope you all have a Great One.
What are you thankful for?

#5,
LOL, if the season was like my favorite brew, I'd get a fresh one out of the fridge. This one was flat. Maybe a flat beer is the perfect description of this past season. You're still going to drink it, but you're hoping that the next one will be better.

I'm just thankful for NASCAR period. Without it the summer would be filled with watching baseball and golf. No matter how boring a race, it is still better than that. And I get to go away about a half dozen times a year and spend some weekends with good friends and a chance to make new ones at the races. And of course I'm also thankful for these blogs where we can all express our opinions and sometimes even make aholes of ourselves, but are always welcomed back.
Happy holidays to all, and how many days until Daytona??????????

Peter - Ditto to your remarks. Bad racing is better than no racing. And the blogs are a great way to voice our opinions.
Happy Holidays to everyone.

Thanks, Keith.
I'm thankful the sport still has potential for real improvement and susprises.

I'm glad I got to enjoy as many races as I did this year, although all but two were on TV. IIRC, we saw some good racing, even if the winners are the usual suspects every week.
Next year, let's begin to enact Daly's "cap" idea with a modest first step: a strict limit on the number of sponsors a driver can mention in post-race interviews.

I have another Thanks to give. I'm thankful I'm not a Detroit or Seattle fan.
I/we had a great repast and I hope yours came close. Remember to appreciate the cook, and if you travel, drive safely.

Keith....you and yours enjoy the holidays and to the blogging gang as well.I usually agree with your thoughts on racing in general.I will list a few things more that I am thankful for and I agree with Peter as well.We may bitch about the product, but I am already bored even more.Yes,I got my Redskins,Panthers and UNC BBall, but I look forward to the racing....
Thankful for drivers like JPM,Harvick,Stewart,Robby Gordon.I really only pull for RG,but these guys still bring it on and off the track.I am so sick of these pretty boys and youngens taking over my Nascar!
Thankful for Speed and Spencer and Kenny. They don't hold back and right or wrong just like the guys mentioned already bring it.Speed's coverage is basic and raw that us "real" fans can appreciate and I do like looking at Wendy!
Thankful for what Humpy brought to the sport.
Thankful that RG is still fighting to keep his dream alive when all the lower-tier teams are closing shop.
Thankful for the Truck series big time!
Thankful to Andy Hillenberg for buying the ROCK and bringing back racing. He has done quite alot so far in less than a year and it only looks better. The racing may be in lower series...but hell, racing is racing and if the show is good that is all that matters.......
I got alot to not be thankful for and it starts with Brian France....Keith,a good topic would be "Who or what is a Turkey"!
Ya'll take care and enjoy the Holidays!

DJ,
Thanks for the good wishes for all.
Don't think of it as being bored...You're anticipating! Nascar needs a longer break for us to really miss it.
I think I'd base my NASCAR thanks on Bill France and Jr., before I even included Brian in a sentence.
Hillenberg resurrecting the Rock is a feel good story for me. I loved NASCAR @ the Rock and it's part of what NASCAR is missing now. Diversity! We could wax poetic on the input of track owners influencing NASCAR and the schedule, but I'm pretty sure we could agree to argue nicely that there are too many similar tracks, and that NASCAR dumped history for TV demographics.

Mostly, I was thankful for a long weekend.
Nah, just kidding. Family and friends, including my cyberbuds on TR.com, top my list. Also, I'm humbly thankful to have been able to participate in a small way in two activities that have held a special appeal for me for as long as I can remember -- writing and racing -- for just about all my professional life. What a blessing.

DJ - For me it's worse than being bored, I'm going through withdrawal. Bad racing is better than no racing.
Many fans don't agree with us but the drivers you mentioned are among my favorites. Hopefully Robby's other businesses will support him enough to stay in Cup. And I'm praying for Stewart-Haas Racing to have a good year.
The Speed guys are also my favorites. I like to hear their opinions whether I agree or not. They are a fix for my addiction. Love Wendy, but for a different reason. LOL
You all have a good weekend.
